PDIS

Process Data Information System

System description
PDIS is a PC based information system for process data collected from a single plant up to a complex production. PDIS can be efficiently used on PC networks. The source of data for PDIS is a Data Warehouse of process, laboratory and logistic data. Input to the Data Warehouse based on the Oracle platform is highly automated; the data is pumped from the most frequent industrial sources (PHD, AIM*, Industrial SQL server and others), but manual input via a keyboard is also enabled.

Browsing the PDIS database
There are two clients enabling one to retrieve data from the PDIS database

Data can be viewed either in a table form or in a graphical one (several types of graphs of trends

  • A process is viewed as a tree. The system is branched, for example from a company, to plants, process units, etc. There are up to six levels of branching. Every branch represents some place (area) in the company.
  • Tags can be grouped to many groups, which can be either public (accessible by all users) or private (defined and accessible by individual users only).
  • Tags and their groups can also be placed on many process flow-sheets with easy navigation among them.

The individual variables (tags) can be found in several ways:

Trends of variables in PDIS

Derived (secondary) variables
Besides directly measured (primary) variables the user can define also a set of derived variables which are automatically calculated from primary variables on the basis of user defined formulas. Typical examples here are quality estimators, compensated flows, simple heat balances, efficiencies of furnaces, etc.

Data validation
Data can be validated by ChemPlant’s data validation systems (data reconciliation programs RECON and IBIS). Reconciled data can be saved either back to the PDIS database or to native databases of data validation tools.

Data exports
Possibilities include export of data to MS Excel or DBF-files. Data are exported on the basis of public or private groups of variables.

Reporting
Reporting is based on user-defined MS Excel templates, which can be either public or private. Each template contains links to the PDIS database and also to databases of RECON and IBIS. Reports can be created either on users’ demand or automatically (for example over night) and distributed by means of the company LAN or Intranet.
